Flow like a mongoose
I remember how fascinated I was the first time I saw a mongoose fighting a snake. I was young when I watched this documentary on television. A little energetic creature was facing off with a snake.
It did not seem to be afraid of the reptile before it. The mongoose constantly kept its gaze fixed on the snake's head. The snake kept hissing and pouncing on the mongoose. The mongoose however appeared unfazed. It waited until the moment the snake’s strike was imminent. And then, it did not react. It just evaded by jumping. It repeated this strategy until the snake tired out. It is said that mongooses survive upto 80% of the time using this strategy.
The idea here is that strategy is better than fear. In this scenario, both the snake and the mongoose are good creatures. They are in a battle for survival. But the success rate of the mongoose is better because it has a strategy and no fear.
So the next time you face a challenging situation, use strategy. Do not panic. Wait until the problem actually unfolds. Many times we worry about tomorrow’s tragedies that never arrive at our doorstep. The mongoose does not try to predict the next pounce. It just waits for the snake to strike. We too need to have a fluid mindset. Jump, roll and evade like the mongoose. Set your eyes on your goal. Wait for an opportunity to present itself. Then make progress.
Be fluid. Stop predicting your next problem.
